Last week I gave a presentation at SES NY and included a list of 35 niche social media sites that we participate in regularly. Lots of people have asked me for this list so I decided to put it here. The following 35 sites are broken down into 8 different categories and each site has an active community and can help you get exposure. These sites aren’t going to send you 50,000 visitors but they will send you targeted traffic & links (if you’re content is good).

Pubcon South, SES NY, IM Spring Break and YOU

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking at the Elite Retreat.  It was an amazing event.  One where I felt I learned just as much from the attendees as the speakers (who were awesome!).  Shoemoney did a nice recap of the conference here and so did Scott Hendison.  Shoe isn’t sure if he’s going to do it next year but if he does – I would highly recommend attending.

A bunch of people have asked me where I am going to speaking in the upcoming days, so I figured it would be easiest to give a rundown of the conferences I am going to be at and the panels I will be on.

On Monday, I did a presentation at LegalTech on a panel called “What is Twitter and How Can I Use It?” along with Kevin O’Keefe & Matthew Homann.  As you can probably tell from the name of the conference, this session was aimed at informing lawyers (and people in the legal profession) on how they could effectively use Twitter.  Here’s my entire PowerPoint presentation:

As I have done in the past with another Twitter presentation, I called on users of Twitter to actually show how Twitter works.  By asking these three questions, I got over 135 responses in ~30 minutes:

Greg Finn I am extremely pleased to be able to finally announce this new addition to 10e20.  Greg Finn is one of the most talented Internet marketers I know and someone that I have always looked at as one of the industry’s ‘best kept secrets’.  For the people that know him well and what he has done in the past – you know why I’m so excited about working with him.

Greg has officially joined 10e20 as our new Director of Internet Marketing.   Greg will also be posting here at the 10e20 Blog on a very regular basis (his posts from last year were some of our best and most popular posts).

Want to connect with Greg?

* Catch up with Greg in person at the upcoming SMX West conference.

* You can also follow Greg on Twitter at http://twitter.com/gregfinn

* Or shoot him a message.

Search Engine Strategies San Jose

On Monday, I’ll be presenting at Search Engine Strategies San Jose on Igniting Viral Campaigns:

In a world dominated by behemoths like bud.tv, MySpace, and YouTube, how do mid-sized and smaller companies break through to generate online destinations that create buzz, encourage word of mouth and establish relationships with potential buyers? This session unveils the secrets of Web 2.0 techniques and technologies that enable companies to stand out and be talked about.

I’m going to focus on an overview of social media marketing and especially how you can leverage social media news & bookmarking sites to make your campaigns take off. The sessions is aimed at small to mid-sized business owners and is a must attend for anyone doing viral marketing. If you’re going to be at SES – I’d really suggest making it to this 11:15am session on Monday morning. I’ll also be joined by Jennifer Laycock, Justilien Gaspard, Fionn Downhill and it will all be moderated by Andrew Goodman.

Yesterday I presented at SES Toronto along with Lee Odden and Dave Snyder on a panel called
‘Twitter: Ultimate Time Waster, or Great Tool?’ I figured that in order to show how Twitter actually works – it would be best to use Twitter to do it. Here’s the results of the experiment and an extended version of my presentation. Also if you’re on Twitter and would like to follow me – here’s my profile: http://twitter.com/chriswinfield

I just got back from the excellent SMX Advanced show in Seattle. Danny and the whole Third Door Media team did another excellent job of putting on a first-rate conference.

Over the next two weeks, I will speaking at three different conferences. The nice thing is that each of the conferences will have a completely different audience to reach. Here’s a quick rundown:

Millennial Financial Services Forum [June 9th] — I will be speaking alone on a panel called Authenticity is the Key to Providing Value/Social Media Marketing:

The importance of an authentic marketing campaign is dire to attracting these Millennials. This session will guide you through the advantages of social marketing networks and social news sites and how to truly reach to reach GenY (or social media/news digg.com). This is your one opportunity to gain a client for life, regardless of their account balances right now. Don’t miss it!

USA Today

Last week I was featured in a USA Today article about the craziness that continues to swhirl around Yahoo. Will it be AOL? Will it be Microsoft? Will Rupert jump in? Jeff Graham wrote an interesting article about what a combined AOL-Yahoo company would be like for users. Personally I feel that a Microsoft-Yahoo combination makes more sense (and this was reflected in my comments):

AOL and Yahoo “are shells of their former selves,” says Chris Winfield, president of New York-based 10e20, which helps companies with their search-advertising campaigns. “I don’t see how combining them makes either stronger.”

and then later:

MySpace has a rich $900 million deal for Google to provide search ads on its site. Put MySpace with Microsoft and say goodbye to the Google deal, says Winfield.

“Microsoft-and-Yahoo is the only legitimate shot at a real competitor,” he adds. “Microsoft has the drive to compete. The same can’t be said about (AOL owner) Time Warner.”

Here’s a quick run-down on where I’ll be speaking during April. One thing that I have tried to do is vary events up a bit so that I can come in contact with all kinds of different people from different industries. Here’s a look at April:

SEO Class. This Friday (April 11th) I will be helping out Jim Boykin with his SEO Class. This is the first one since Jim took it over and brought it under the umbrella of his Internet Marketing Ninjas program and features some amazing presenters. I’ll be presenting on social media marketing tactics and attendees will also get to learn from Michael Gray, Greg Niland, Ted Ulle (tedster), Kim Krause-Berg, Barry Schwartz and of course – Jim Boykin. I think it’s pretty much sold out but if you really want to go, email me (cwinfield [at] 10e20.com) and I’ll see what I can do.

Cobbler's shoesYou know the old saying about the cobbler’s children’s shoes? Well unfortunately our blog has become the children in that analogy. We’ve been so busy kicking out amazing campaigns for our clients that it’s been hard to keep up with our writing. And we also didn’t want to fall into that trap of just writing for the sake of writing. Or rehashing a bunch of things that have been said over and over again. So it’s time to catch up on some stuff that has been happening and make a pinky swear to getting the 10e20 blog content flowing strong again….

Chris Winfield at Search Engine Strategies New YorkSearch Engine Strategies New York. Last month I had the pleasure of presenting at SES NY. I spoke on a panel called Social Media Marketing – What is it and What is it Good For? with people from Yahoo!, IBM, Comedy Central, Ogilvy and BlogHer. My presentation focused on three of my favorite social networks (Digg, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon) and how to leverage them effectively for your business (with three case studies for each network).
